A well-attended seminar at the Finnish Institute in Stockholm became a meeting place to highlight the strong ties between Finland and Sweden. Together, the countries have a long history of shared values, culture and trade. This results annually in millions of passenger journeys and the transport of millions of tons of goods across the Baltic Sea.

Northern European ports in collaboration receive EU funding for onshore power for container ships
Four Northern European ports are set to significantly reduce emissions from container ships moored at quay. With a joint support of €18,8 million from the EU fund Connecting Europe Facility for the project EU.OPS.Network, the ports of Aarhus, Gothenburg, Bremerhaven, and Stockholm will provide onshore power to container ships calling at the ports by 2030.

Ports of Stockholm is now certified through the EcoPorts’ environmental management standard (PERS), an environmental standard that exists specifically for ports.

Ports of Stockholm receives funding to support Ukrainian ports
Ports of Stockholm has now been granted support from the Swedish Institute within the framework of the Ukraine Cooperation Programme to cooperate with Ukrainian ports. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of these ports and create a basis for integration into the EU transport network (TEN-T), an important part of Ukraine's future trade and post-war recovery.

Stockholm's cruise season pulls the plug with onshore power connection in port
Ports of Stockholm summarizes this year's cruise season with close to 200,000 visitors and several returning ships. As an important step in the sustainability work, Sweden's first onshore power connection for cruise ships was inaugurated during the summer. This further strengthens Stockholm's position as a sustainable premium destination.

Stockholm is ready for winter
On 10 October, the vessel Sea Carrier arrived at Stockholm directly from Tunisia with 6,300 tonnes of road salt. It will be used to keep streets and pavements safe, and to secure the infrastructure in the Stockholm region.

Swedish and Finnish ministers visited Värtahamnen port
On September 16, Ports of Stockholm had the honor of receiving five Swedish and three Finnish ministers in the Värta terminal. The visit was part of the two governments meeting to strengthen the ties and relations between our neighbouring countries.

Sweden's first OPS for cruise ships inaugurated in Stockholm
Ports of Stockholm has taken an important step towards more sustainable shipping by inaugurating Sweden's first onshore power connection for cruise ships. The facility allows ships to connect to electricity at berth, reducing emissions and noise levels. This strengthens Stockholm's position as a premium destination for sustainable cruise traffic.

Extended service at Stockholm Norvik Port with new container loader
At the end of August a new automated container loader arrived by sea from Latvia to Stockholm Norvik Port. This investment increases the capacity at Ports of Stockholm and enhances the service to meet the needs of the Swedish export industry for containerization of cargo.

All of Sweden’s core ports retain status in revised TEN-T Regulation
Sweden’s core ports welcome the revised regulation on European Union guidelines for the development of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) adopted by the European Council in mid-June. All five of Sweden’s core ports retain their status in the network and thereby continue to play vital roles in the EU’s increased efforts to build a sustainable and robust European transport network.

Cruise Europe holds successful conference in Stockholm
On 14–16 May, the Cruise Europe network held its annual general meeting and annual conference in Stockholm. Over a couple of beautiful summer days, visitors were able to experience Stockholm as a popular cruise destination and a sustainable, premium destination. Ports of Stockholm hosted the event together with Stockholm Business Region.

Stockholm Norvik Port - Logistics node for captured carbon in East Sweden
By establishing a logistics node for captured carbon dioxide at Stockholm Norvik Port it is possible to create an efficient and sustainable transport chain for carbon dioxide from several potential emitters in East Sweden. This is revealed in the final report of the feasibility study of the NICE project – Norvik Infrastructure CCS East Sweden.

Ports of Stockholm welcomes revitalised cruise ship Birka Gotland
Ports of Stockholm welcomes a new customer – Gotland Alandia Cruises – a collaboration between Gotlandsbolaget and Viking Line. The company has started a new route using the popular and newly refurbished ship, Birka Gotland, departing from Ports of Stockholm’s quay in the city centre.

Stockholm Norvik Port gains status in EU network
Stockholm Norvik Port has recently been designated comprehensive status following the proposal of an agreement on the EU regulations for development of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). Being part of the EU transport network and gaining comprehensive status makes it, among other things, possible to apply for EU funding. This gives Stockholm Norvik Port greater potential to continue to develop as a node for sustainable transport and to become a leading energy hub.

Maiden call of the new M/S Finncanopus at Ports of Stockholm
Finnlines second new vessel, M/S Finncanopus, has now arrived at Ports of Stockholm. Following the successful introduction of the M/S Finnsirius in September 2023, the shipping company is continuing to renew and improve its fleet on the Kapellskär – Långnäs – Naantali route.

Stockholm received birch sauna whisks from Finland on Valentine's Day. This was a loving response to bunches of roses that Stockholm sent to Finland last year. These tokens are a further step in the exciting journey to renew and revive relations between two dear neighbours on opposite sides of the Baltic Sea.

Green shipping corridor partnership agreement signed between Ports of Stockholm, Port of Turku and Viking Line
Ports of Stockholm, Port of Turku and Viking Line have formally entered into partnership to create a green shipping corridor between Turku and Stockholm, which will be fossil fuel-free by 2035 at the latest. The result will be a framework with scalable solutions for the transition to fossil-free fuels and shipping with low climate impact.
