Operational Policy
The foundation of Ports of Stockholm's operations is our ownership directives. This operational policy establishes our approach and level of ambition within quality, HR, occupational health and safety, CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), environment, and security. The policy provides a framework for conducting operations, fulfilling ownership directives, and complying with regulations at international, national, and local levels, such as the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
We strive to ensure the highest possible quality in our mission, which is carried out through our main processes:
- Establishing and maintaining customer relationships and profitable business.
- Providing modern and functional port facilities and buildings.
- Conducting efficient, safe, and sustainable vessel calls.
- Performing tasks based on our public mission/our role as a community actor.
We work systematically and structured to continually develop and improve our operations, processes, and working methods. Our ambition is that renewal and innovative methods will contribute to this development. Through improvements and renewal we create greater value for our owners, customers, suppliers, employees, and other stakeholders.
We achieve this by:
- Planning and monitoring our operations,
- Being responsive to the needs and demands of our stakeholders,
- Managing deviations and learning from both positive and negative experiences,
- Working with risks and opportunities, both at a strategic level and within the operational activities.
Collaboration with other actors nationally and internationally is an important success factor for achieving clear results in our work, particularly given that ports are a link in a longer transport chain.
HR, Occupational health and safety, and CSR
We address HR and occupational health and safety issues to develop our operations where the working environment and methods promote health, safety, job satisfaction, and efficiency. The high competence and awareness of managers and employees are fundamental prerequisites for the development and continuous improvement of our operations.
A central aspect of this work is to identify, analyse, and manage/address occupational health and safety risks. HR and occupational health and safety work are integral parts of planning and monitoring both our own operations and contracted assignments.
We strive to be an attractive workplace and a role model in occupational health and safety, both as an employer and as a purchaser of services and contracts. No one should be injured or suffer ill health at our workplaces or in our projects.
Environment
We aim to be a leader in environmental matters and work proactively to prevent pollution, promote the development of sustainable technology, and achieve a continuously reduced environmental impact. At the international, national, and local levels, there are regulations, goals, strategies, and associated governance documents and frameworks in the environmental field that we adhere to and work from. Our environmental efforts are conducted in accordance with the European Sea Ports Organisation's guidelines in the Port Environmental Review System (PERS), a port-specific environmental management standard.
Our environmental efforts are approached from several perspectives:
- Active and long-term work to reduce the port's own environmental impact.
- Close collaboration with and support for our maritime customers, local tenants, and other stakeholders to reduce their environmental impact.
- Promotion of maritime transport in the Baltic Sea region to contribute to energy and climate-efficient transportation.
Key areas for our environmental efforts include efficient energy use and renewable energy, reduced emissions to air and water, minimized noise impact, environmentally sound chemical and material choices, and increased waste recycling.
Security
Our security work aims to maintain a safe and secure environment for those in and around our ports, as well as to protect our assets and operations. We meet the requirements arising from changes in the outside world and the security situation, and we develop and strengthen our civil preparedness capabilities in collaboration with the City of Stockholm. Security work is an integral part of our operations to ensure it does not become a limiting factor.
The foundation of this work is governed by laws and regulations, along with our own values and high ambitions. Collaboration with relevant authorities and other stakeholders is essential. The major areas within our security work include port and maritime protection, information security, security protection, crisis management, and Sweden´s total defence.
